first mayor?

The article refers to dealings with New York City's "first mayor"? How could the first mayor of a hundreds-of-years-old city still be alive? --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 15:53, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Previously, all five boroughs had separate mayors. He was the first unified mayor of New York.OlYeller (talk) 21:13, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
